Brief Counselling

Where Support Meets Understanding

At Mend the Gap Community Services, we offer brief counselling to provide timely, supportive guidance for individuals facing challenges in their daily lives. Brief counselling is a short-term, goal-focused approach that helps people address specific concerns, build coping strategies, and move forward with greater clarity and confidence.

Our counsellors provide a safe, respectful, and non-judgmental space where individuals can talk openly about what they are experiencing. Together, we work to identify strengths, explore possible solutions, and develop practical tools that support personal well-being and resilience.

What is Brief Counselling?

Brief counselling focuses on current challenges and practical solutions rather than long-term therapy. The goal is to help individuals gain insight, strengthen coping skills, and create manageable steps toward positive change.

This approach can support individuals who may be experiencing:

  • Stress or anxiety
  • Life transitions or major changes
  • Relationship changes
  • Grief or loss
  • Feeling overwhelmed or stuck
  • Decision-making difficulties

Brief counselling is often used as an early support service, helping individuals address concerns before they grow into larger challenges.

What to Expect

Sessions are collaborative and focused on helping individuals identify their goals and develop practical strategies. Counsellors work alongside participants to explore their experiences, recognize personal strengths, and identify supportive resources.

Each session typically lasts 45–60 minutes, and the number of sessions is usually short-term, often ranging from 1 to 6 sessions depending on the individual’s needs.

If longer-term or specialized support is needed, we can also assist with referrals to additional services and resources.

Who This Service is for

Brief counselling may be helpful for individuals who

  • Need support navigating a current life challenge
  • Want to develop coping strategies for stress or emotional overwhelm
  • Are seeking guidance or a different perspective
  • Are new to counselling and looking for short-term support
  • Would benefit from practical tools and goal-focused conversations
